“Two infinity pools carved into the rock, direct view of Capri's three iconic rocks.”
L'Hotel Punta Tragara occupies two modernist villas designed by Le Corbusier in 1920, perched at the end of the Via Tragara, the promenade leading to the Faraglioni. We stay in 44 rooms and suites with clean lines, white marble floors, private terraces facing the Tyrrhenian Sea. The two infinity pools are carved into the cliff, one heated all year round, the other open from May to October. The Punta Tragara Beauty Farm spa offers treatment cabins with views, hammam, Finnish sauna. The Monzù table serves contemporary Campanian cuisine on a terrace suspended 80 metres above the water. From 1 614 € per night, we pay for the position, the architecture, the discretion (Italian and Northern European clientele, few Americans). A palace that embraces its modernist heritage without yielding to the gilded codes of Capriote luxury ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Punta Tragara to fans of modernist architecture seeking a discreet palace far from the Piazzetta and its worldly bustle. It's a hotel for couples in their forties and older, late honeymoons, romantic retreats off-season (April, October). Families with teenagers find their place here thanks to the duplex suites and two pools, but the clientele remains mostly adult and European.
The building
Architecture and interiors
Two modernist villas designed by Le Corbusier in 1920 for the Milanese industrialist Emilio Vismara, converted into a hotel in the 1970s. Clean lines, white volumes, roof terraces, ribbon windows: the Corbusian vocabulary intact. Interiors renovated in 2018, Carrara white marble floors, contemporary Italian furniture (Cassina, B&B Italia), modern art works in the common areas. Rooms between 28 and 65 m², suites up to 120 m² with 40 m² terraces.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Monzù restaurant occupies a suspended terrace with 180° views over the Faraglioni and Amalfi Coast. Contemporary Campanian cuisine by Luigi Lionetti: fresh pasta, Mediterranean fish, vegetables from the Orto di Capri, wine list 600 references (focus Campania and Sicily). Breakfast served on the terrace or in room, continental buffet and hot menu. The Tramonto Bar offers signature cocktails and aperitifs facing the sunset, open from April to October until midnight.
