Positano’s historic palace with its feet in the water, literally.
Hotel Buca Di Bacco
From
1,173.6 €
“Stilted terrace above Spiaggia Grande beach, tables set facing the fishing boats.”
Buca Di Bacco has held Positano’s main beach since 1920, ochre and faded blue façade planted in the sand. We sleep above the waves, windows open to the surf, majolica tiles on the floor, bleached rattan furniture. The rooms are small (15 to 20 m² for most), but the view compensates: colourful boats, tuff cliffs, Santa Maria Assunta bell tower to the left. The restaurant occupies a stilted terrace, tables set two metres from the water, honest fish cooking without fanfare. From 1 174 € a night, rate justified by the location (we’re on the beach, not above). The service remains family-run, sometimes overwhelmed in high season. An address for those who want Positano without climbing 300 steps every evening ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Buca Di Bacco to couples in their forties and older who want Positano without the physical effort (stairs, climbs). It’s an address for travellers who prioritise location over space, ready to accept modest rooms to sleep facing the sea. Romantics and fans of Italian dolce vita find their account here, less so families with children (little space, high rate).
The building
Architecture and interiors
Buca Di Bacco occupies a 1920s building, enlarged in stages until the 1960s. Classic Mediterranean façade, ochre render and blue shutters, arcades on the ground floor. Interiors in Vietri majolica, exposed beams, rattan and wrought-iron furniture. Rooms between 15 and 25 m², all different, some recently renovated, others in their 1980s juice.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Buca Di Bacco restaurant serves classic Mediterranean fish cuisine: linguine alle vongole, fritto misto, branzino al sale. Tables set on the stilted terrace, feet in the water, continuous service from 12h to 23h in season. Continental breakfast served in room or on the terrace, local products correct without particular flair. Beach cocktail bar, spritz and negroni facing the sunset.

Location & access
Where the hotel sits in Positano
Buca Di Bacco stands on Spiaggia Grande, Positano’s main beach, at the foot of Via Rampa Teglia. Santa Maria Assunta church 50 metres away, ceramics and beachwear boutiques in the adjacent alleys. No cars possible (pedestrian zone), boat shuttle to Amalfi and Capri from the pontoon 100 metres away. The area buzzes until midnight in summer, calm off-season, very touristy but authentic in its workings.
