“Spa with restored 17th-century Ottoman hammam, vestige of the Ottoman era in the foundations.”
L'Hotel Sumratin occupies a 17th-century stone house in the Pile district, two minutes from the western gate of the old town. We slept in a room with white limestone walls, polished terrazzo floor, bathroom in Korčula marble. The spa carved into the medieval foundations retains an intact Ottoman hammam, heated pool under stone vaults. The ground-floor table serves honest Dalmatian cuisine, Adriatic fish, wines from Pelješac. The service remains discreet, efficient, without folklore. From 328 € a night, it is one of the best addresses to sleep near the ramparts without being in the tourist flow. ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Sumratin to couples who want Dubrovnik without the cruise coaches, and to travellers who prefer small addresses to large chain hotels. It is a house for late honeymoons, autumn weekends, off-season wellness retreats. Families find their place here (family rooms available), but the intimate scale and the spa make it above all an address for adults.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from the 17th century, white limestone typical of Dubrovnik, restored in 2018 with respect for the original volumes. Vaulted ceilings on the ground floor, ceiling height of 3.20 m in the rooms, exposed beams in some suites. The foundations reveal Ottoman remains, integrated into the current spa. The scale remains domestic: 14 rooms spread over three levels, original stone staircase, no lift.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The ground-floor restaurant serves a short Dalmatian menu, renewed according to the Gruž market. Grilled fish from the Adriatic, black risotto with cuttlefish ink, peka of Pag lamb to order. Continental breakfast with local cheeses, dried figs, almond cake from Korčula. Wine list focused on Croatia: Plavac Mali from Pelješac, Pošip from Korčula, Malvazija from Istria. Room service available until 22h.
