A design boutique hotel on the finest pedestrian street in the historic centre, with rooftop pool facing the rooftops of the Ribeira.
PortoBay Flores
From
365 €
“Rooftop with heated pool and 360° views over the Douro, the azulejo rooftops and the Clérigos tower.”
PortoBay Flores occupies a restored building on Rua das Flores, a pedestrian artery lined with 18th-century façades and art galleries. We tested a street-side room: oak parquet, midnight-blue velvet upholstered headboard, black marble bathroom with walk-in shower. The sixth-floor rooftop offers a 12-metre heated pool, teak loungers, cocktail bar and open views over the river and cathedral. The basement spa has four treatment rooms, sauna, hammam and a Voya treatment menu. Service is attentive without being stiff, the team speaks fluent French and English. From 365 € a night, we recommend it for a design weekend in the heart of historic Porto ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend PortoBay Flores to couples in their thirties and forties looking for a design pied-à-terre in the historic centre without sacrificing 5★ comfort. The hotel suits romantic weekends, cultural escapes (Soares dos Reis and Serralves museums 15 minutes away) and travellers wanting to explore Porto on foot. Families with children will find the space limited; the address is above all designed for adults.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The hotel occupies an 18th-century building fully restructured in 2016 by Nini Andrade Silva. Listed façade in blue and white azulejos, contemporary interior with polished concrete walls, walnut woodwork and bespoke furniture. The 27 rooms are spread over six floors, some with Juliet balconies, others with rooftop views. Ceiling height of 3.20 metres in the original rooms, more compact volumes in the converted attics.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Flores restaurant serves contemporary Portuguese cuisine under an internal glass roof: grilled octopus, duck rice, revisited pastéis de bacalhau. Buffet breakfast with queijadas, bolos de arroz, Trás-os-Montes charcuterie and eggs to order. The rooftop bar offers signature cocktails (Porto Tonic with white wine, local gin Gin 1689) and a tapas menu until 11pm. Room service available from 7am to 11pm, reduced but refined menu.
