A neoclassical villa from the 19th century transformed into an urban palace with thermal spa, a stone's throw from Casa da Música.
GA Palace Hotel & Spa, a XIXth-Century Villa
From
448 €
“Two pools (heated indoor and outdoor on garden), rare in central Porto.”
The GA Palace Hotel & Spa occupies a neoclassical villa from 1860 on Avenida da Boavista, restored in 2019 with respect for the original mouldings and solid oak parquet floors. We slept in a room with high ceilings (3,80 m), Portuguese marble bathtub, light filtered by linen curtains. The 800 m² spa offers a hammam, Finnish sauna and treatment cabins with views over the wooded garden. The two pools (one indoor at 28°C, one outdoor open May-September) alone justify the detour. The service is attentive without being intrusive, breakfast served until noon at weekends. From 448 € per night, Booking rating 9,6/10 from 4 129 reviews, which places the address among the top trio in Porto. We recommend without reservation ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the GA Palace to couples in their thirties and older looking for an urban palace with real wellness infrastructure, far from the boutique hotels of the Ribeira. It is an address for detox weekends, wedding anniversaries, high-end business trips with recovery time. Family rooms and accessible rooms for reduced mobility broaden the spectrum, but the clientele remains predominantly adult, drawn by the spa and the residential calm of the neighbourhood.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The villa dates from 1860, a time when the Porto bourgeoisie built on Avenida da Boavista. Neoclassical granite façade from Valongo, original wrought-iron portal. Interiors restored in 2019: ceiling mouldings, solid oak parquet floors, Lioz marble staircase. Rooms measure between 28 and 55 m², ceiling height 3,80 m, contemporary Portuguese furniture (Wewood brand) in dialogue with the 19th-century woodwork.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The GA restaurant offers a Mediterranean menu with produce from the Matosinhos market (fish, seafood). Weekend breakfast buffet served until noon, with pastries from Padaria Ribeiro and cheeses from Serra da Estrela. Bar open until midnight, vintage port list (Niepoort, Quinta do Noval). 24-hour room service, simplified menu after 23h.
