“Two pools including one on the rooftop with views over the orange-tiled roofs and the Douro, open all year round.”
Casa da Companhia Hotel & Spa occupies three carefully restored 18th-century buildings, exposed stone and intact moulded ceilings. We tested a courtyard-side room: absolute calm, king-size bed, Portuguese grey-green marble bathroom, subdued lighting. The two-storey spa offers hammam, sauna, treatment cabins, and this heated pool under a glass roof that we found impeccable at 8am. The second pool, on the roof, offers a clear view over the azulejos facades and the river in the distance. The service is attentive without being intrusive, the team speaks French fluently. From 449 € a night, it is one of the best spa addresses in Porto ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Casa da Companhia to couples in their thirties and older seeking a city spa weekend, away from overly stiff museum-hotels. The address also suits solo travellers in search of wellness, with a spa accessible without complex reservations. Families find their place thanks to connecting rooms, but the atmosphere remains hushed, adult.
The building
Architecture and interiors
Three adjoining 18th-century palaces, listed facades, restored between 2019 and 2021. Contemporary interiors signed by a Lisbon studio: raw stone, dark wood, brushed brass, bespoke furniture. The original moulded ceilings and granite floors have been preserved, rooms measure between 28 and 45 m². The property comprises 83 rooms spread over five floors, lift in each building.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The restaurant Fora occupies the ground floor of the main building, contemporary Portuguese cuisine with produce from the Bolhão market. Buffet breakfast served until 11am, with local pastries and Iberian charcuterie. The Companhia bar, beneath stone vaults, offers signature cocktails and Douro wines, open until midnight. Room service available 24/7, reduced menu after 10pm.
