19th-century palace turned Relais & Châteaux, 32 rooms in Madrid's embassy district.
Relais & Châteaux Hotel Orfila
From
593.21 €
“Interior garden of 400 m² with shaded terrace, rare in the Chamberí district.”
The Relais & Châteaux Hotel Orfila occupies a neoclassical palace from 1886, on rue Orfila, a stone's throw from Paseo de la Castellana. There are 32 rooms spread over four floors, moulded ceilings, oak parquet, French 19th-century furniture mixed with contemporary pieces. The interior garden, planted with magnolias and orange trees, offers a rare respite in this part of Madrid, we take breakfast there from April to October. The El Jardín del Orfila restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine under a glass roof, short menu, seasonal produce, well-stocked Spanish wine cellar. From 593 € per night, a coherent rate for a Relais & Châteaux in the city centre. Service remains discreet, efficient, never obsequious. An address for those seeking the intimacy of a house rather than the pomp of a palace ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Orfila to couples fleeing big chain hotels and seeking a private house atmosphere. It's an address for romantic weekends, discreet anniversaries, travellers accustomed to Relais & Châteaux who already know Madrid. Families are accepted, but the intimate scale and calm of the place suit adults better.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from 1886, constructed for a Madrid aristocrat in the then-fashionable French neoclassical style. Limestone façade, wrought-iron balconies, central marble staircase. Interiors restored in 2011: original woodwork preserved, Rubelli and Pierre Frey fabrics, bronze light fixtures. Rooms measure between 22 and 45 m², all different, some overlooking the garden.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The El Jardín del Orfila restaurant occupies a glass roof overlooking the interior garden. Mediterranean cuisine directed by chef Marcos Granda, short menu renewed every three months, market produce. Breakfast served on the terrace in fine weather, buffet and à la carte formula. Cocktail bar in the library lounge, open until midnight. Room service available 24/7.
