“Only 26 rooms, all different, with views of the Grand Canal or secondary canals.”
The Violino d'Oro Venezia occupies an 18th-century palazzo on the Grand Canal, 100 metres from St Mark’s Square. We slept in a room with exposed beams, Venetian terrazzo floor, restored period furniture. Canal light filters through the mullioned windows, the silence surprises despite the Rialto’s proximity. Service is discreet, reception knows the names. From 1 054 € a night, it’s the price of a well-kept historic Venetian 5★, without spa or gourmet restaurant. We recommend for the address and building’s authenticity ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Violino d'Oro to couples seeking an authentic palazzo without the scale of a grand hotel. It’s an address for travellers who prioritise location and historic character over spa and starred tables. Families find their place thanks to family rooms, but the atmosphere remains intimate, almost confidential.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The palazzo dates from the 18th century and overlooks the Grand Canal, between St Mark’s and the Rialto. Classic Venetian interiors: terrazzo floors, painted beams, ceiling stuccos, restored period furniture. The scale is domestic, 26 rooms spread over three floors, all different. The façade retains its original mullioned windows, typical of Venetian Baroque architecture.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Violino d'Oro offers room service but no on-site restaurant. Breakfast is taken in a vaulted room on the ground floor or in room. The location compensates: we’re two minutes’ walk from Osteria alle Testiere and Bancogiro, five minutes from the Rialto market. Reception books tables and knows the local addresses.

Location & access
Where the hotel sits in Venice
The palazzo stands on the Grand Canal, 100 metres from St Mark’s Square, 200 from the Rialto Bridge. We’re in the San Marco sestiere, Venice’s tourist heart, but the hotel overlooks a quiet secondary canal. Vaporetto lines 1 and 2 at the Rialto stop, three minutes’ walk. From Marco Polo airport, allow 45 minutes by private water taxi or one hour by Alilaguna. The neighbourhood is dense, lively until 10pm, then silent.
