Medieval cloister with stone arcades, organic kitchen garden that supplies the table, and absolute silence from the moment the gate is crossed.

Hotel Certosa Di Maggiano occupies an ancient charterhouse founded in 1314, restored without betraying the monastic architecture. The brick vaults, terracotta floors and exposed beams set the tone. We count only 14 rooms, all different, some with views over the cloister or the Tuscan hills. The outdoor pool is nestled in the four-hectare park, planted with cypresses and olive trees. The restaurant serves classic Tuscan cuisine, produce from the kitchen garden, a well-stocked Sienese wine list. From 648,55 € a night, we pay as much for the setting as for the service, impeccable but never stiff. It is a hotel for those seeking absolute calm without giving up contemporary comfort ✨

Who is it for?

Who we recommend it to

We recommend the Certosa to couples in search of a romantic retreat, far from the bustle of the historic centre. It is an address for those in their forties and older, lovers of history and gastronomy, who prefer the silence of medieval stones to worldly rooftops. Families find their place here thanks to the spacious rooms and the park, but the atmosphere remains hushed, almost monastic.

The building

Architecture and interiors

The Certosa Di Maggiano is one of the oldest charterhouses in Italy, founded in 1314 by Carthusian monks. The main building retains its brick vaults, original terracotta floors and arcaded cloister. The rooms occupy the former monastic cells, enlarged and fitted with modern bathrooms without altering the volumes. The four-hectare park, planted with cypresses, olive trees and holm oaks, surrounds the whole and preserves the isolation sought by the founders.

At the table

Restaurants, bar, service

The Certosa restaurant serves classic Tuscan cuisine, rooted in the Sienese terroir. The chef works with organic vegetables from the estate kitchen garden, local meats and regional cheeses. The wine list favours nearby appellations: Brunello di Montalcino, Chianti Classico, Vernaccia di San Gimignano. Breakfast is taken under the cloister arcades or on the terrace, according to season, with house pastries and garden jams.
