“Rooms dressed in buttoned leather and black marble, Plein Maison furniture, a stone's throw from La Scala and the Duomo.”
The Plein Hotel occupies a 19th-century palace on via Daniele Manin, three minutes from La Scala, and translates the Philipp Plein universe into hotel keys. We enter a hall all black marble, gilded stucco, oversized chandeliers, chrome furniture. The rooms mix buttoned leather, velvet headboards, Carrara marble bathrooms, assumed rock'n'roll details (gilded skulls, leopard prints). The restaurant offers a contemporary Italian menu, attentive service, solid Milanese wine cellar. The address appeals to clients who love ostentatious luxury, fashion as a statement, maximalist design. We tested a Junior suite, comfortable, soundproofed, from 921,90 € per night. Member Small Luxury Hotels of the World, the hotel keeps its promises of personalised service, responsive concierge, room service until midnight ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend The Plein to travellers who embrace ostentatious luxury, Milanese fashion enthusiasts, loyal Plein clients, couples on Fashion Week shopping weekends. The hotel also suits high-end business trips, Quadrilatero meetings, client dinners in a statement setting. Families find their place here (family rooms available), but the clientele remains mostly adult, thirties and up, fashion/finance/entertainment profiles.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building is a 19th-century neoclassical palace, ochre façade with cornices, pedimented windows, typical of Milan’s historic centre. Interior entirely redesigned in 2018 by the Philipp Plein teams: black marble floors, gilded stucco ceilings, crystal and chrome chandeliers, bespoke Plein Maison furniture. Rooms between 30 and 60 m², 3.20 m ceiling height, dark oak parquet, all-marble bathrooms. The scale remains intimate, around thirty rooms, boutique-hotel vibe despite the maximalist décor.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The hotel’s restaurant offers a contemporary Italian menu, Lombard produce, fresh homemade pasta, aged meats, market fish. Breakfast buffet and à la carte, room service available until midnight. Solid Italian wine cellar, focus on Lombardy and Piedmont wines, sommelier present at dinner. The atmosphere remains intimate, hotel guests and a few Milanese regulars, reservation advised at weekends.
