Former 17th-century convent perched on Fourvière, with plunging views over the Saône and the rooftops of Lyon.
Villa Florentine, A Beauvallon Hotel & Spa
“Panoramic terrace dominating the city, accessible from the spa and the heated pool.”
Villa Florentine occupies a former Renaissance convent on the hill of Fourvière, 150 metres above the Saône. We access via the montée Saint-Barthélémy, paved, steep, but the view from the terrace justifies the effort (or the taxi). The rooms mix exposed beams, Lelièvre fabrics and Carrara marble bathrooms, some with balcony facing the Alps in clear weather. The 400 m² spa includes heated pool, hammam and treatment cabins under stone vaults. From 350 € per night in low season, 600 € and more during Lumières or Bocuse d'Or period. Attentive service without being stiff, international and Lyonnais clientele for romantic weekends. We recommend a room on the city side, the others overlook the interior garden (pretty but without the signature view) ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Villa Florentine to couples seeking Lyonnais romance, to travellers who prioritise the view and calm over nocturnal animation (Vieux Lyon is ten minutes on foot downhill, twenty on the way back up). It is an address for birthday weekends, marriage proposals on the terrace, spa stays after a week of bouchons. Families find their place here (family rooms available), yet the atmosphere remains hushed, conducive to tête-à-tête.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from 1659, former convent of the Visitandines converted into a hotel in the 1990s. Lyonnais Renaissance architecture: ochre façades, stone vaults, spiral staircases, terraced gardens. Interiors classically refurbished in 2015, light woodwork, Ligne Roset and Roche Bobois furniture, Murano glass chandeliers. The rooms vary between 22 and 45 m², all different according to the layout of the former monastic cells.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
Les Terrasses de Lyon, gastronomic table led by chef Davy Tissot (trained with Bocuse), one Michelin star since 2014. Revisited Lyonnais cuisine, produce from the Drôme and Beaujolais, tasting menu at 135 €, à la carte around 90 € per dish. The panoramic terrace opens from April to October, reserve three weeks in advance for dinner at sunset. Buffet breakfast served in the vaulted room or on the terrace, 32 € per person, freshly pressed juices and Pignol viennoiseries.
