DesignIconiqueBusinessGastronomieHistorique

Nobis Hotel Copenhagen occupies the former Danske Bank, facing Kongens Nytorv, and transforms banking austerity into a manifesto of contemporary Scandinavian design. We cross a cathedral-like hall with 12-metre ceilings, restored 1903 glass roof, period terrazzo floor, signed furniture (Jacobsen, Wegner, Juhl) arranged like in a private apartment rather than a hotel lobby. The 77 rooms blend original wood panelling, brushed brass, upholstered headboards in midnight-blue or terracotta velvet, bathrooms in white Carrara marble with Vola taps. The Studio restaurant occupies the former vault, concrete vaults and contemporary Nordic cuisine served until 23h. From 478 € a night, we pay as much for the location (Nyhavn 400 metres away) as for the aesthetic coherence, rare in Design Hotels chains. Service remains discreet, never obsequious, typically Copenhagen. An address for those seeking Danish design without the cold minimalism ✨

Who is it for?

Who we recommend it to

We recommend the Nobis to travellers who already know Copenhagen and seek a design address without falling into the hygge cliché. It's a hotel for thirty-something and forty-something couples, architecture weekends, dinners after Noma or Geranium, discreet meetings in the financial district. Families find their place here (interconnecting rooms available), but the clientele remains mostly adult, Nordic or accustomed to Scandinavian capitals.

The building

Architecture and interiors

The Nobis Copenhagen occupies the former headquarters of the Danske Bank, built in 1903 by architect Hack Kampmann in neo-Nordic Renaissance style. Bornholm sandstone facade, preserved banking hall with its Swedish green marble columns, wrought-iron glass roof, vaults transformed into private salons. 2017 renovation by Gert Wingårdh (architect of Nobis Stockholm): he preserves the original volumes and materials, adds brushed brass, deep velvets, Paavo Tynell light fixtures. Rooms between 22 and 45 m², 3.20 m ceiling height, original sash windows overlooking Niels Brocks Gade or interior courtyards.

At the table

Restaurants, bar, service

The Studio restaurant occupies the bank's former vault, raw concrete vaults, smoked oak tables, Series 7 chairs by Arne Jacobsen. Contemporary Nordic cuisine by chef Mads Lund (ex-Noma), 6-course tasting menu at 95 €, short menu renewed weekly according to market. The Gilt bar serves signature cocktails (aquavit, yuzu, Nordic berries) and 180 spirits references, open until 1h Thursday-Saturday. Scandinavian buffet breakfast (smoked salmon, rye bread, Danish cheeses) served in the atrium under the glass roof, 7h-11h weekdays, until 12h weekends.
