A neighbourhood five-star in Södermalm, far from the royal splendour of Gamla Stan.

“9.6/10 score on 145 reviews, rare for a Swedish palace outside international chains.”
Stockholm Stadshotell occupies Björngårdsgatan, a residential artery of Södermalm, south of the historic centre. We are far from the 18th-century façades of Gamla Stan: here, the architecture is contemporary, the volumes generous, the Nordic light omnipresent. The rooms welcome families without surcharge, the Wi-Fi works everywhere, pets are admitted. The restaurant serves Scandinavian cuisine without starred pretensions, correct for an arrival dinner. From 480 € per night, the rate remains high for a hotel without spa or rooftop, but the Booking score (9.6) testifies to impeccable service. We recommend for a professional or family stay, not for a romantic getaway.
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Stadshotell to business travellers seeking a five-star without the pomp of historic palaces, and to families wanting comfort without constraints (pets, children, space). It is a hotel for stays of three nights and more, city meetings, cultural visits to Södermalm. Couples seeking romance will find better elsewhere: here, the atmosphere is functional, efficient, Nordic.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building is contemporary, probably erected in the 2000s-2010s, with a sober façade typical of recent Swedish architecture. Light interiors, blond wood, clean lines, standard ceiling heights. No trace of stucco or mouldings: we are in the register of Scandinavian design, minimalist, comfortable. The rooms are spacious, the bathrooms tiled in white, indirect lighting.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Stadshotell restaurant offers a classic Scandinavian menu: smoked fish, local meats, root vegetables, sourdough bread. No signature chef or star, but honest execution for dinner without venturing out. Breakfast follows the Nordic model (herrings, cheeses, rye bread, filter coffee). Room service available until 10pm, reduced menu after 8pm.

Location & access
Where the hotel sits in Stockholm
Björngårdsgatan runs through Södermalm, a residential district south of Gamla Stan, twenty minutes on foot from the Royal Palace. Around: independent cafés, vintage shops, contemporary art galleries, young creative population. Medborgarplatsen metro ten minutes away, Arlanda 45 minutes by Arlanda Express then taxi. The area livens up in the evening (bars, restaurants), but stays quiet after midnight. Less touristy than Norrmalm, more authentic.
