71 Nyhavn Hotel

“Listed 1804 façade opening directly onto Nyhavn canal, with boat views from most rooms.”
The 71 Nyhavn Hotel occupies two shipowner's warehouses joined in 1971, facing Denmark's most photographed canal. We bed down in rooms with exposed beams, waxed oak parquet, sash windows overlooking moored sailboats. The scale remains intimate, 150 rooms spread over five floors without lifts in some sections (check at booking). The restaurant serves honest Nordic cuisine without starred pretensions, terrace popular from April. From 361 € per night, rate justified by the historic location and rarity of listed addresses on the port. Service is discreet, efficient, never stuffy. An address for those who want to sleep in the postcard without sacrificing modern comfort ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the 71 Nyhavn to couples who prioritise historic authenticity over contemporary design, romantic weekends or anniversaries with water views. It's an address for travellers aged 35 and up, fans of 18th-century Danish architecture, ready to accept a few constraints (narrow stairs, variable room sizes) to sleep in a listed monument. Families with young children will find access tricky, better to opt for modern hotels with lifts.
The building
Architecture and interiors
Two shipowner's warehouses built in 1804, joined and converted into a hotel in 1971 with strict heritage respect. Typical Nyhavn port yellow and red façades, listed by the Danish state. Preserved interiors: massive oak beams, original floorboards, restored sash windows. Rooms from 18 to 35 m², all different according to floor and wing, some mansarded under the eaves.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Pakhuskælderen restaurant serves seasonal Nordic cuisine, Baltic fish and Danish meats, without gastronomic pretensions but careful execution. Full Scandinavian buffet breakfast (smoked salmon, marinated herring, rye breads) served in the vaulted ground-floor room. Quayside terrace open from April to September, much in demand in the evenings. Room service available until 22h, reduced menu after 20h.
