Hotel Sanders
From
761.754 €
“24-hour library-lounge with fireplace, honesty bar and collection of Danish vinyls.”
Hotel Sanders occupies a neoclassical building a stone's throw from Nyhavn, renovated in 2017 by the founder of Birger Christensen. We step into a hall with forest-green walls, bleached oak parquet, Kaare Klint armchairs, light dimmed by linen lampshades. The 54 rooms blend original wood panelling, velvet-upholstered headboards, Carrara marble bathrooms with Vola taps. The restaurant serves modern Nordic cuisine under a glass roof, from 762 € a night. Service remains discreet, never obsequious, typically Scandinavian. The address draws an international clientele fleeing chains, seeking Copenhagen authenticity without folklore. We slept in a courtyard-facing room, absolute silence, firm king-size bed, perfect water pressure ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Sanders to thirty-to-fifty-something couples seeking design Copenhagen without cold minimalism. The hotel suits gastronomic weekends, discreet business trips, cultural stays with opera and museums. Families find their place thanks to interconnecting rooms, but the atmosphere remains intimate, rather adult after 8pm.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from 1869, neoclassical façade in yellow brick typical of the royal quarter. Kølpin has preserved the original mouldings, parquets and fireplaces, added Kvadrat velvet, Gubi lighting, works by contemporary Danish artists. Ceiling height of 3.20 m in the noble rooms, white marble staircase with wrought-iron balustrade. The whole spans 1,200 m² over six floors, period lift restored.
