A Swedish boutique hotel that plays the private salon card rather than the ostentatious palace.

“Just 25 rooms, all different, in two 1890 buildings linked by an Art Nouveau corridor.”
Villa Dagmar occupies two late 19th-century buildings on Nybrogatan, a stone's throw from Östermalm. We tested a courtyard-facing room: bleached oak parquet, sage-green velvet headboards, Carrara marble bathroom. The scale remains intimate, 25 rooms in total, which gives the place a family home atmosphere rather than a chain hotel. The basement spa offers hammam, Finnish sauna, treatment cabins, open until 9pm. The Dagmar Matbar serves contemporary Nordic cuisine, local produce, short menu that changes every six weeks. From 431 € per night, a fair rate for Stockholm without being cheap. We recommend if you're seeking discretion and attentive service rather than a monumental lobby ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Villa Dagmar to thirty-something couples and above seeking a discreet address rather than a tourist palace. It's a hotel for romantic weekends, tête-à-tête dinners, returns from galleries or walks in Djurgården. Business travellers appreciate the calm and proximity to Stureplan, but the vibe remains resolutely leisure.
The building
Architecture and interiors
Two 1890 stone buildings with typical Östermalm neoclassical façades, linked by an interior corridor. Interiors renovated in the 2010s: painted woodwork, preserved mouldings, mix of vintage Scandinavian furniture and contemporary pieces. 3.20m ceilings in original rooms, solid parquet throughout. The scale remains residential, no cathedral lobby, rather a reading lounge and hushed bar.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Dagmar Matbar restaurant occupies the ground floor, open lunch and dinner. Contemporary Nordic cuisine by a chef trained at Oaxen Krog: Baltic fish, fermented vegetables, Swedish farm meats. Short menu, six starters, six mains, renewed every six weeks by season. Breakfast served until 11am, full Scandinavian buffet with marinated herring, house breads, local cheeses. Room service available 7am–10pm, simplified menu.
