A chain Sheraton playing the central location card rather than the Scandinavian design one.
Sheraton Stockholm Hotel

“Direct view of the city hall and Gamla Stan from the upper rooms, two minutes' walk from Centralplan metro.”
The Sheraton Stockholm Hotel occupies a 1970s building at Tegelbacken, facing Lake Mälaren and the entrance to the old town. We are in an international chain hotel, not a Nordic design address: thick carpet, dark wood panelling, functional rooms with decent bedding and beige marble bathrooms. The view more than compensates for the lack of personality, especially on the upper floors where Stockholm unfolds between water and baroque spires. The fitness centre is small but well equipped, open 24/7. From 298 € per night, it's good value for a 5★ right in the centre, provided you accept the Marriott DNA. We recommend it for a practical stay, not for immersion in Swedish aesthetics.
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Sheraton to business travellers who prioritise proximity to the central station and the reliability of an international chain. Families appreciate the spacious rooms and pet policy, as well as easy access to transport. It's an address for those seeking an efficient base camp rather than a Scandinavian design experience.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from the 1970s, typical of the Swedish functionalist architecture of the era: concrete and glass facade, standard ceiling height, generous volumes. The interiors have been renovated in classic Sheraton style: light marble lobby, patterned carpets, mahogany-stained woodwork. Rooms range from 22 to 45 m², with large windows that offset the sobriety of the furniture. The whole lacks architectural character but fully embraces its status as a grand chain hotel.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The main restaurant serves unsurprising international cuisine, copious breakfast buffet with smoked salmon, marinated herring and Swedish pastries. The lobby bar offers classic cocktails and a few local beers, cosy atmosphere after 6pm. Room service available 24/7, reduced but effective menu. We don't come here for gastronomy, but to eat properly without leaving the hotel.

Location & access
Where the hotel sits in Stockholm
The Sheraton stands at Tegelbacken, between the central station and Gamla Stan, on a small square opening directly onto Lake Mälaren. The old town is five minutes' walk via Vasabron bridge, Drottninggatan (shopping artery) three minutes away. Centralplan metro station two minutes, Arlanda airport 40 minutes by express train. The area is very busy by day, quiet at night, with a strong presence of offices and hotels. Not the most charming Stockholm, but the most practical.
