“Direct view of the royal castle and Gamla Stan from harbour-side rooms, breakfast served facing the water.”
The Grand Hôtel Stockholm has occupied Blasieholmshamnen quay since 1874, and remains the royal address of the Swedish capital. We sleep in rooms with blond parquet floors, Svenskt Tenn fabrics, white marble bathrooms. The view over Gamla Stan and the palace justifies the rate on its own, from 562 € per night. The Raison d'Être spa spans two floors with indoor pool, Finnish sauna, hammam. Dining features two signature tables, including the Michelin-starred Mathias Dahlgren. Service remains discreet, efficient, very Scandinavian in approach. We recommend a harbour-side room, the others overlook the interior courtyard ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Grand Hôtel to travellers seeking the historic Scandinavian palace, without ostentation but with view and impeccable service. It's an address for fortysomething couples and above, royal weekends, gourmet dinners, discreet ceremonies. Families find their place here (connecting rooms, pool), but the clientele remains mostly adult, high-end business and leisure.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The Grand Hôtel occupies a neoclassical building from 1874, ochre and white façade facing the port. Interiors progressively renovated since 2010, blend of Swedish classicism and contemporary Nordic design. Blond parquet floors, light woodwork, Josef Frank fabrics, Örsjö lighting. Rooms between 25 and 120 m², all different, some with balconies over the water.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
Two tables at the Grand Hôtel: the Michelin-starred Mathias Dahlgren for contemporary Nordic cuisine, and Veranda for breakfasts facing the port and light lunches. The Cadier bar serves cocktails and afternoon tea in a Belle Époque setting. Room service operates 24/7, short but well-executed menu. We book Mathias Dahlgren three weeks ahead in high season.
