“17th-century façade opening directly onto Skeppsbron, the royal quays facing Djurgården island.”
L'Hôtel Reisen occupies a 17th-century merchant building on Skeppsbron, Stockholm's historic quays. We sleep facing the ferries gliding towards the archipelago, in rooms with exposed beams and blonde parquet. The basement spa plays the Scandinavian card, sauna and pools in raw stone. The Booking score of 8.8/10 reflects a well-oiled Hyatt service, unsurprising but flawless. The restaurant serves contemporary Nordic cuisine, Baltic produce and game from Norrland. From 306 € a night, we pay mainly for the address, Gamla Stan on foot, Djurgården in view. A pocket palace that embraces its human scale ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Reisen to travellers seeking a historic anchor without forgoing the comfort of an international chain. It's an address for fortysomething couples on cultural city breaks, Nordic business lunches, three-day spa escapes. Families will appreciate the proximity to Djurgården's museums, but the scale remains intimate, maximum 144 rooms.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from 1619, former warehouse of the Swedish East India Company converted into a hotel in 1819. Ocre façade with seven storeys, small-paned windows, original beams preserved in the public areas. Interior blends light Scandinavian woodwork and contemporary Hyatt furniture, without pastiche. Rooms vary between 22 and 45 m², some with direct views over the quays and maritime traffic.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Reisen restaurant offers a contemporary Nordic menu, marinated herring, smoked reindeer, Baltic fish according to arrival. The Clipper bar occupies a 17th-century vaulted cellar, classic cocktails and artisanal aquavit. Complete Scandinavian buffet breakfast, gravlax salmon and homemade rye breads. Room service available until 10.30pm, reduced menu but careful execution.
