The VP Plaza España Design occupies a glass and steel tower on the renovated square, facing the Cervantes monument. We head straight up to the 12th for the infinity pool, clear views over the Madrid rooftops and the sierra in the distance. The rooms play Nordic minimalism, light wood, pearl-grey padded headboards, white marble bathrooms with Italian showers. The basement spa offers hammam and treatment cabins, nothing spectacular but effective. From 425 € a night, we pay mostly for the location and this rooftop that justifies the stay on its own. Service remains professional without being warm, typical of big chain hotels. An address for those who want Madrid at their feet ✨

Who is it for?

Who we recommend it to

We recommend the VP Plaza España to travellers who want modern Madrid without giving up luxury, thirty-something and forty-something couples on city breaks, businessmen between Castellana meetings. The rooftop draws an international crowd that prioritises views and location over historic charm. Families appreciate the spacious rooms and pool, but the vibe stays resolutely adult after 7pm.

The building

Architecture and interiors

The VP Plaza España Design rises in a contemporary 15-storey tower opened in 2018, smoked glass and polished concrete architecture. Interiors by a collective of Madrid designers, clean lines, Scandinavian furniture, contemporary Spanish art in the corridors. 2.80m ceilings, XXL picture windows flooding the spaces with natural light. The scale is that of an office building converted into a luxury hotel, 214 rooms spread over 12 floors.

At the table

Restaurants, bar, service

The Botania restaurant on the ground floor offers contemporary Mediterranean fare, seasonal produce, wood-fired cooking, nothing transcendent but honest. The Ginkgo Sky Bar on the 12th serves signature cocktails and revamped tapas until midnight, unrivalled sunset views over the Casa de Campo side. Copious buffet breakfast with made-to-order eggs station, fresh juices, Iberian charcuterie. 24/7 room service, reduced menu after 11pm.
