Madrid's Rosewood bets on contemporary art and discreet service, far from the expected Castilian pomp.
Rosewood Villa Magna
From
1,400 €
“Integrated art gallery with rotating exhibitions of emerging Spanish artists, visible from the lobby.”
Rosewood Villa Magna occupies a 1970s building on Paseo de la Castellana, business artery of modern Madrid. We are far from the historic palace: here, luxury comes through generous volumes, smoked grey marble, contemporary artworks hung in the corridors. The rooms play the chic minimalism card, dark wood and king-size beds, bathrooms in natural stone. The 650 m² spa offers hammam and treatment cabins, open until 22h. The gastronomic table Amós holds a Michelin star, technical Basque cuisine. From 1 400 € per night, we pay as much for the impeccable service as for the address: Salamanca district and its luxury boutiques are ten minutes on foot ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Rosewood to business travellers who want comfort without folklore, and to fortysomething couples who love contemporary art. The hotel suits gastronomic stays (the Amós table justifies the detour) and shopping weekends in Salamanca district. Families are accepted, but the atmosphere remains hushed, designed for an adult clientele.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from 1972, modernist Madrid architecture without frills. Complete renovation in 2020 by Rockwell Group studio: grey marble lobby, walnut woodwork, 3.20 m ceilings. The 154 rooms and suites display a clean contemporary style, neutral tones, padded headboards, bespoke furniture. No gilding or stucco: luxury comes through materials (stone, solid wood, linen) and volumes.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Amós restaurant has held a Michelin star since 2021, technical Basque cuisine by Jesús Sánchez. Short menu, seasonal produce, sharp Spanish wine list. Tarde.O bar serves cocktails and revamped tapas until midnight, hushed vibe, velvet armchairs. Continental buffet breakfast at Flor y Solera, 24h/24 room service. The tables are serious, without show, just like the house.

Location & access
Where the hotel sits in Madrid
Rosewood stands on Paseo de la Castellana, north-south artery through Madrid's business district. Salamanca (luxury boutiques, galleries) ten minutes on foot, Retiro park fifteen. Rubén Darío metro station 300 metres, Barajas airport 25 minutes by car. The area is posh, quiet at night, very business in the week. We are far from tourist Madrid (Sol, Gran Vía), but that's just what Rosewood's clientele likes.
