The Indian Taj sets down its bags in Cape Town, between Wale Street and the castle, in a historic building converted into residential suites.
Taj Hotel Cape Town - Taj Residence suites
From

“Suites with equipped kitchenette and washing machine, designed for long stays facing Table Mountain.”
Le Taj Cape Town occupies two connected buildings on Wale Street, a stone's throw from the Castle of Good Hope. We stay in spacious residential suites, light parquet, contemporary Indian furniture, kitchenette with hob and dishwasher for those staying a week or more. The rooftop pool overlooks Table Mountain, the Jiva spa offers Ayurvedic treatments in a dark wood and Jaipur stone setting. The service retains that Indian courtesy that has built the group's reputation, attentive without being intrusive. From 172 € per night, a rare rate for this level of standing in Cape Town. We recommend for extended business trips or families who want to cook without giving up palace comfort ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We send here business travellers on long assignments (two weeks, a month) who want to keep their domestic habits, and families who prefer to cook in the morning rather than head down to the buffet. Couples on a city break will appreciate the space and the pool, but the DNA remains residential. It is a discreet Taj, not the monumental palace of Mumbai, rather tailored for those who already know Cape Town and are looking for a comfortable pied-à-terre.
The building
Architecture and interiors
Two historic buildings in the city centre linked by an internal passage, lime-washed colonial façades, renovated in the 2010s. Contemporary interiors with Indian nods: teak wood, embroidered fabrics, hammered brass lamps. The suites range from 45 to 90 m², standard ceiling height (2.80 m), original sash windows. The scale remains human, 176 suites in total, chic residential building atmosphere rather than vertical palace.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Mint restaurant serves a correct Indo-fusion menu without being memorable, continental and Indian buffet breakfast (dosa, idli, masala chai). The Twankey Bar offers cocktails and tapas in the evening, revisited colonial decor, buttoned leather armchairs. 24-hour room service with full menu. We prefer to dine out in the neighbourhood (The Test Kitchen ten minutes away, La Colombe in Constantia), home cooking remains an asset of the suites.
