Art house facing the Atlantic, private collection of 500 South African works and terraces on Bantry Bay.
Ellerman House
From
1,185.786 €
“Integrated contemporary art gallery with works by William Kentridge and Irma Stern, accessible to residents.”
Ellerman House has held the flank of Bantry Bay since 1912, Edwardian villa converted into eleven suites facing the ocean. We come as much for the South African art collection (the most important in private hands in the country) as for the teak terraces overlooking the rocks. The rooms blend colonial furniture and contemporary works, Carrara marble bathrooms, sliding glass bays onto the Atlantic. The spa occupies a separate pavilion with heated pool and sea-view treatment cabins. The gastronomic table changes menu every evening, cellar of 7 500 South African bottles. From 1 186 € per night, butler service included, shuttle to the Waterfront and beaches. We have rarely seen an address combine art, ocean and discretion with such coherence ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Ellerman House to collectors and lovers of contemporary African art seeking a confidential address away from the Waterfront. It is a house for couples in their forties and older, discreet honeymoons, creative retreats, wedding anniversaries. Families with teenagers find their place here (the villa accepts children over 12), yet the clientele remains predominantly adult and international.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The 1912 Edwardian villa was transformed into a luxury guesthouse in 1992, then enlarged in 2007 with the addition of Villa Two. British colonial architecture: white facades, slate roofs, bow windows, wrought-iron verandas. Classic interiors revisited with Burmese teak floors, moulded ceilings, marble fireplaces. The eleven suites occupy two buildings linked by terraced gardens, sizes between 55 and 120 m² according to category.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The gastronomic table at Ellerman House changes menu daily according to the market and arrivals from Hout Bay. Contemporary South African cuisine, Cape produce, food and wine pairings with the 7 500-bottle cellar. Breakfast served on the terrace or in the room until noon, afternoon tea in the afternoon. The cigar bar offers 150 references and single malt whiskies. No restaurant open to the public, table reserved for residents only.
