Wakax Hacienda occupies a former agricultural property rehabilitated in 2019, planted in the Mayan jungle between Tulum and Playa del Carmen. We bed down in low pavilions of polished concrete, tropical wood and palm roofs, arranged around a natural 12-metre-deep cenote. The rooms embrace Mexican minimalism: terracotta floors, king-size beds under mosquito nets, open bathrooms with outdoor showers. The spa offers Mayan massages and traditional temazcal, the infinity pool overlooks the canopy. From 313 € a night, we’re far from the hotel zone’s tumult, but reckon fifteen minutes by car to reach the ruins or beach. The address seduces with its calm and landscape integration, less with immediate proximity to emblematic sites. Service remains attentive, the international clientele discreet ✨

Who is it for?

Who we recommend it to

We recommend Wakax to thirty- and forty-something couples seeking calm, far from beach clubs and hotel zone DJ sets. The address suits travellers who prioritise nature immersion and wellness rituals over nightlife. Families with children over 12 find their account here, but the vibe stays resolutely adult and contemplative.

The building

Architecture and interiors

The hacienda reprises Yucatecan traditional architecture codes: lime-washed white walls, exposed cedar beams, thatched palm roofs. Pavilions arranged in a U around the cenote, linked by white gravel paths lined with tropical vegetation. 4-metre ceilings, wooden fans, no air conditioning in communal spaces. Ground-floor suites have direct access to the natural pool, upper-floor ones offer private terraces with jungle views.

At the table

Restaurants, bar, service

The Ik'Balam restaurant serves contemporary Mexican cuisine under an open palapa, with organic peninsula produce and daily catch. Continental breakfast included, served 7am to 11am with fresh juices and tropical fruits. The mezcal bar lists 40 artisanal references, guided tastings Thursday evenings. Room service until 10pm, reduced but curated menu.
