An 18th-century Rajput fort converted into an Oberoi palace, where we sleep in domed pavilions surrounded by 32 acres of Mughal gardens.

“Private royal tents with individual pool and 24-hour butler service, planted in the gardens as in the time of the maharajas.”
The Oberoi Rajvilas Jaipur occupies a former military fort 20 minutes from the centre, transformed into a horizontal palace where one moves between domed pavilions, lotus ponds and bougainvillea alleys. The rooms (45 m² minimum) blend Makrana marble, carved wood and restored Rajput frescoes, bathrooms in local stone with separate bath. The 930 m² spa offers Ayurvedic treatments in vaulted rooms, 27-metre pool lined with white colonnades. We tested the butler service: discreet, efficient, never intrusive. From 402 € per night, a rate justified by the scale of the estate and the quality of execution. The distance to the centre requires a taxi or shuttle, but it is the price of absolute calm. An Indian palace that assumes its heritage without falling into cinematic decor ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Rajvilas to travellers seeking palatial India without urban bustle, couples on honeymoon or quinquagenarians on a Rajasthan circuit who want a real break between two forts. It is a hotel for those who prioritise space and calm over immediate proximity to the bazaars, who accept a 25-minute journey to visit the pink city. Families find their place here (pool, gardens), but the atmosphere remains hushed, conducive to romantic stays and wellness retreats.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The main building follows the architecture of an 18th-century Rajput fort, with its watchtowers, domes and pink sandstone corridors. Oberoi rebuilt the site in 1997 respecting traditional techniques: barrel vaults, jalis (carved screens), wall frescoes executed by local artisans. The pavilions are arranged around terraced gardens, Mughal fountains and lotus ponds, creating a horizontal village rather than a vertical block. Ceiling heights between 3.5 and 4 metres, floors in white marble and Jaisalmer stone, sheesham wood furniture inlaid with mother-of-pearl.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
Rajmahal serves regional Indian cuisine (Rajasthani thalis, tandoor, Kerala curries) in a vaulted room or on a terrace facing the gardens, continental and Indian breakfast buffet included. Surya Mahal offers grills and a more classic international menu, open in the evening only. Cocktail bar in the main pavilion, list of Indian whiskies and single malt scotches. 24-hour room service, possibility of private dinners in the gardens or under a royal tent with dedicated chef.
