The Rambagh Palace occupies the winter residence of maharaja Man Singh II, built in 1835 and expanded until 1925. We sleep in suites with hand-painted ceilings, Rajput frescoes, sheesham wood furniture inlaid with mother-of-pearl, bathrooms in Makrana marble. The 19-hectare gardens shelter Mughal fountains, rose gardens, white marble pavilions where tea is served in the afternoon. The outdoor pool runs alongside a century-old palm avenue, the Jiva spa offers Ayurvedic treatments in former court chambers. From 368 € per night, which remains accessible for a palace of this scale. The service retains a formality inherited from the princely era, sometimes rigid but always impeccable. We recommend a minimum one-night stay to enjoy the gardens at sunrise ✨

Who is it for?

Who we recommend it to

We recommend the Rambagh to travellers seeking historical immersion without tourist folklore, couples on honeymoon, enthusiasts of Indo-Saracenic architecture. It is an address for those who wish to understand Rajput splendour without forgoing contemporary comfort, with pool, spa, reliable Wi-Fi. Families find their place thanks to the immense gardens, but the atmosphere remains hushed, clientele predominantly adult.

The building

Architecture and interiors

The current palace dates from 1835, enlarged in several phases until 1925 under the reign of Sawai Man Singh II. Indo-Saracenic architecture: bulbous domes, jalis (carved sandstone screens), ogee arches, inner courtyards with fountains. Interiors restored by Taj Hotels in 2009: Rajput murals, Bohemian crystal chandeliers, Persian carpets, Raj-era furniture. The suites occupy the former royal chambers, ceiling heights between 4 and 6 metres, stained-glass windows.

At the table

Restaurants, bar, service

Three tables at the Rambagh Palace: Suvarna Mahal under a gilded dome for royal Rajasthani cuisine (smart dress required in the evening), the Rajput Room for grills and continental dishes, the Verandah for the breakfast buffet facing the gardens. The Polo Bar serves cocktails and snacks in the former stables, walls covered with polo trophies and maharaja portraits. Afternoon tea served in the marble pavilions, Indian pastries and English sandwiches.
