“Heated pool in a closed garden of 2,000 m², with loungers under the centenary plane trees.”
Villa Saint-Ange occupies an 18th-century bastide in the Mazarin district, a stone's throw from Saint-Sauveur cathedral. We tested a Deluxe room: period terracotta tiles, blonde stone walls, Tavel marble bathroom, Simmons bedding. The spa offers a hammam, sauna, treatment cabins, and the pool remains open from April to October, heated to 28°C. The restaurant serves revisited Provençal cuisine, produce from the Prêcheurs market, short menu renewed each week. The service is attentive without being stiff, we feel at home with friends who have taste. From 503 € per night, a rate justified by the location and quality of execution. An address for lovers of Aix who want to avoid chains without sacrificing comfort ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Villa Saint-Ange to couples in their thirties and older looking for a Provençal stopover without folklore. The address suits romantic weekends, wellness retreats, business travellers who want to avoid the Novotel in the centre. Families with children are accepted, but the atmosphere remains hushed, designed for adults.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The bastide dates from 1750, Bibémus stone façade typical of the Pays d'Aix, blue shutters, canal tile roof. Complete renovation in 2019 by interior architect Christophe Tollemer: restored period terracotta tiles, exposed beams, raw blonde stone walls. Rooms measure between 22 and 35 m², custom solid oak furniture, Flos lighting, Dornbracht fittings. The garden retains its centenary plane trees, dry-stone enclosure walls, Cassis stone basins.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The restaurant occupies the former orangery, glazed bays overlooking the garden, spaced tables, white linen cloths. Chef Julien Diaz (ex-Château de la Pioline) proposes a short menu: six starters, six mains, produce from the Prêcheurs market renewed each week. Breakfast served until 11am, continental buffet and eggs to order, house jams, viennoiseries from boulangerie Weibel. Room service available 7 days a week from 7am to 11pm, reduced menu after 10pm.
