An 18th-century château in the middle of the vines, twenty minutes from the centre of Aix, for those seeking Provence without the folklore.
Château de la Gaude
From
624.3 €
“Wine estate of 20 hectares with a wine cellar of 600 references and tastings at the château cellar.”
The Château de la Gaude occupies an 18th-century Provençal bastide set on a hillside of vines, route des Pinchinats, away from the Aix hubbub. We come here for the silence, the blond stones, the blue shutters, the light falling on the rows of vines in the late afternoon. The rooms blend old tomettes, Nobilis fabrics, bathrooms in Cassis stone, some with terrace overlooking the vineyard. The 400 m² spa and the heated outdoor pool operate from April to October, the gastronomic restaurant serves Mediterranean cuisine rooted in the terroir. From 624 € a night, we sleep in a real wine estate, not a hotel pretending to be countryside ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Château de la Gaude to couples seeking Provence without the tourist mas, and to wine lovers looking for immersion in a real wine estate. It is an address for digital-detox weekends, discreet birthdays, wellness retreats, a few nights before heading down to the coast. Families find their place here in summer, but the spirit remains adult, hushed, focused on gastronomy and rest.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The château dates from the 18th century, a typical Provençal bastide with a blond limestone façade, blue shutters, canal-tile roof. Interiors renovated in a contemporary classic spirit: period tomettes, exposed beams, bespoke furniture, French editor fabrics. The rooms are spread between the main building and two annexes in the park, all different, between 28 and 55 m². The scale remains intimate, twenty-eight rooms in total, no endless corridors.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The château's gastronomic restaurant serves seasonal Mediterranean cuisine, produce from the Aix market and vegetables from the kitchen garden, a short menu that changes every month. Continental breakfast served in the dining room or on the terrace facing the vines, with homemade jams and pastries from a baker in Puyricard. The estate cellar offers tastings of château wines and Provençal appellations, by reservation. Room service available until 22h.
