The French palace of Buenos Aires, the one that has crossed the century without yielding on protocol or gilding.
Alvear Palace Hotel - Leading Hotels of the World
From
408.177 €
“1 500 m² spa with heated indoor pool and Ottoman hammam, open until 22h.”
L'Alvear Palace Hotel has occupied avenue Alvear since 1932, opposite the French embassy, and remains the only Argentine palace member of Leading Hotels of the World. We enter beneath an Art déco glass roof, Carrara marble underfoot, French crystal chandeliers, mahogany panelling. The rooms display an assured Louis XVI style, Rubelli fabrics, pink marble bathrooms, 3.80 m ceiling height. The 1 500 m² spa with heated pool and hammam alone justifies the detour. From 408 € per night, a rare rate for this level of service in Buenos Aires. L'Orangerie serves classic French cuisine beneath a glass dome, the L'Orangerie bar offers 180 single malt whiskies. We recommend without reservation ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Alvear to travellers seeking a European-style palace in South America, with no compromise on service or décor. It suits couples in their fifties and beyond, business dinners, wedding anniversaries, clients familiar with the Ritz or the Meurice who wish to find that same protocol in Buenos Aires. Argentine families have celebrated baptisms and weddings here for three generations; the atmosphere stays formal even by day.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from 1932, commissioned by the Alvear family in the French Beaux-Arts style. Stone façade, wrought-iron balconies, central 18-metre glass roof signed Cristofani. Interiors refurbished in 2018: Italian Carrara marble, solid mahogany panelling, Baccarat crystal chandeliers, hand-woven Turkish carpets. The rooms occupy six floors, restored period lifts, corridors 2.40 m wide.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
L'Orangerie serves classic French cuisine beneath the Art déco glass roof: pan-fried foie gras, turbot with hollandaise, Grand Marnier soufflé. Chef Maximiliano Sola previously worked with Alain Ducasse before returning to Buenos Aires. The L'Orangerie bar offers 180 single malt whiskies and classic cocktails, hushed atmosphere until 1am. Continental breakfast served in-room or under the dome, house pastries, jams imported from France.
