The glass tower that tipped Puerto Madero into the 21st century, and one of the rare vertical palaces in South America.

“Two stacked pools on the 31st and 8th floors, with plunging views over the Río de la Plata and the Paraná delta.”
L'Alvear Icon Hotel occupies a 192-metre tower signed Pelli Clarke Pelli, the very one that redrew the Puerto Madero skyline in 2012. We sleep between the 6th and 31st floor, in rooms with floor-to-ceiling bay windows, dark wood, grey marble, Poltrona Frau furniture. The light changes with the hour, golden on the river side in the morning, low on the city side in the afternoon. The Aqua Vita spa extends over 1 500 m² on the 31st, with an infinity pool facing the delta. From 318 € a night, a rate consistent with this level of finish and this rare verticality in Buenos Aires. The service remains discreet, efficient, never obsequious ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Alvear Icon to travellers seeking a vertical palace, far from the Belle Époque codes of the historic centre. It suits quadra-plus couples, extended business stays, lovers of contemporary architecture and urban views. Families find their place (connecting rooms, 8th-floor pool), yet the clientele remains predominantly adult, international, discreet.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The tower was designed by César Pelli (Petronas Towers, World Financial Center), delivered in 2012 after four years of construction. Low-e glass and brushed-steel façade, 32 floors, slender silhouette in dialogue with the rehabilitated old docks of Puerto Madero. Interiors by Yabu Pushelberg: Calacatta marble, smoked walnut, patinated bronze, 3.20 m ceiling height in standard rooms. The lobby spans two levels, with a monumental travertine staircase and an 18-metre-high glass roof.

Restaurants, bar, service
The Tomo I occupies the ground floor, contemporary Argentine cuisine by chef Adrián Herrera, cellar of 12 000 bottles with focus on Mendoza Malbecs and Patagonian Pinot Noirs. Breakfast is taken on the 8th floor, continental buffet and à la carte, river view. The Sky Bar on the 31st serves cocktails and tapas until midnight, book at weekends. Room service 24/7, reduced menu yet careful execution.
