The Langham Chicago
From

“Pool on the 4th floor with bay windows overlooking the towers of the Loop, open until 10pm.”
The Langham Chicago occupies the first 13 floors of a Mies van der Rohe building on North Wabash, facing the river. We enter through a hall of white marble and dark wood, six-metre ceiling height, natural light filtered by Japanese blinds. The rooms start at 40 m², floor-to-ceiling bay windows, views over the river or Michigan Avenue depending on the floor, signature Blissful Bed linen, bathrooms in pink marble with separate bath. The Chuan spa occupies 3,200 m² in the basement, 20-metre pool, hammam, sauna, treatment cabins inspired by traditional Chinese medicine. The service remains discreet, efficient, never obsequious, typical of the Langham house. From 447 € per night, which places the address in Chicago's upper range without reaching the rates of the Peninsula or the Four Seasons ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Langham to business travellers who want a proper spa after their meetings in the Loop, and to couples seeking contemporary luxury without American folklore. The hotel attracts an international clientele, forty-somethings and older, already familiar with the brand in London or Hong Kong. Families find their place thanks to the spacious rooms, yet the atmosphere stays hushed, designed for rest.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe in 1972, IBM Plaza tower converted to mixed use. The Langham occupies floors 2 to 13, with an independent entrance at ground level. Interiors redesigned in 2013 by Richmond International: Calacatta marble, walnut wood, brushed bronze, beige and pearl-grey palette. The public spaces play on verticality and natural light, with works of contemporary American art in the corridors.
