27-storey obelisk architecture with panoramic views over the Creek and Downtown, 10 minutes from the old town.

The Sofitel Dubai The Obelisk rises in the Wafi complex, a recognisable pyramidal silhouette from Sheikh Rashid Road. We tested a room on the 18th floor: floor-to-ceiling windows, beige and dark wood palette, grey marble bathroom with double sink. The outdoor pool stays open all year, surrounded by teak sun loungers and a juice bar. The spa offers signature Sofitel treatments, cabins with dimmed lighting and Carita products. Rates from 96 € per night, aggressive positioning for a 5★ of this calibre in Dubai. Service is professional without being stuffy, Wi-Fi works everywhere, free parking is a relief in this city where everything costs. An address that delivers on its promises without bluster ✨

Who is it for?

Who we recommend it to

We recommend the Sofitel The Obelisk to business travellers who want a real 5★ without paying the price of Jumeirah or Downtown addresses. Couples will appreciate the spa and pool for a relaxing weekend, away from the Marina bustle. Families find their account thanks to spacious rooms and the Wafi district, with its shopping centre and restaurants within reach.

The building

Architecture and interiors

The hotel occupies a 27-storey pyramidal tower built in the 2000s, integrated into the Egyptian-inspired Wafi complex. Light marble lobby with columns and contemporary chandeliers, less ostentatious than Jumeirah palaces. Rooms feature classic Sofitel design: neutral tones, dark wood furniture, padded headboards. Standard ceiling height (2.70 m), but floor-to-ceiling windows compensate with light and views.

At the table

Restaurants, bar, service

Three tables at the Sofitel The Obelisk: Plantation for Asian fusion cuisine, Eatery for international buffets, Koubba Bar for terrace cocktails. Breakfast is at the Eatery, generous buffet with made-to-order egg station and Lebanese corner. Room service runs 24/7, concise but effective menu. The level holds up for a Sofitel, without pretending to rival Downtown signature tables.

Location & access

Where the hotel sits in Dubai

The Sofitel stands in the Wafi district, on Sheikh Rashid Road, midway between old Dubai and Downtown. The Wafi shopping centre is attached to the hotel, with its boutiques and restaurants under a glass roof. Burj Khalifa 15 minutes by car, international airport 10 minutes, Gold Souk 8 minutes. The district is quiet in the evening, very residential, without the effervescence of the Marina or JBR. Healthcare City metro station 12 minutes on foot, but in Dubai taxis rule.
