“Sultan Suite with private hammam in Marmara marble and 150 m² terrace over the strait.”
The Çırağan Palace Kempinski Istanbul occupies the former imperial palace built by Sultan Abdülaziz, directly on the European shore of the Bosphorus. We stay either in the historic palace (only 11 suites), or in the modern wing that extends the building without betraying it. The palace rooms overlook the strait, walnut parquet, neo-Ottoman furniture, Turkish marble bathrooms. The 2,000 m² Sanitas spa includes a listed historic hammam, heated indoor pool and outdoor infinity pool facing Asia. From 456 € per night, which remains accessible for a palace of this scale with two signature restaurants and private gardens of 65,000 m². The rating of 9.5/10 from 1,456 reviews reflects impeccable service and flawless maintenance. We book a palace room if the budget allows, otherwise the modern wing offers the same access to the facilities ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Çırağan to travellers seeking an authentic historic palace without compromise on contemporary comfort. It is an address for honeymoons, wedding anniversaries, heritage stays with spa, international clientele accustomed to Kempinski. Families find their place in the modern wing, yet the atmosphere remains hushed, adult, conducive to dinners on the terrace facing the strait.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The original palace dates from 1874, commissioned by Sultan Abdülaziz in a neo-baroque Ottoman style. 300-metre white-stone façade on the Bosphorus, restored after the 1910 fire that destroyed part of the building. The contemporary wing (1991) extends the palace with 284 rooms, discreet architecture set back from the gardens. Historic palace interiors: coffered gilded ceilings, marble columns, precious-wood parquet, reconstituted period furniture. The imperial suites retain their original proportions, up to 4 metres in ceiling height.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
Two main tables: the Tugra, one-star Ottoman gastronomic restaurant in the local guide, Bosphorus view, palace cuisine revisited by chef Fatih Tutak. The Laledan offers a Mediterranean menu on the terrace in summer, renowned breakfast buffet (meze, Turkish pastries, egg station). Gazebo bar in the gardens for cocktails facing the strait, open until 1am. Room service 24/7, full menu available in the room.
