“Three tiered pools facing the Aegean Sea, including a 50-metre infinity pool carved into the rock.”
The Mandarin Oriental, Bodrum occupies 60 hectares of Mediterranean pine forest on Cennet Bay, fifteen minutes from Göltürkbükü. We sleep in low pavilions of local stone, cedar wood and tiled roofs, scattered among hundred-year-old olive trees and terraced gardens. Rooms start at 50 m², all with private terrace, some with infinity pool overlooking the Aegean. The 2 500 m² spa carves its treatment rooms into the hillside, Ottoman hammam in Marmara marble, six outdoor cabins under pergola. Three pools succeed each other from the top of the property down to the 300-metre private pebble beach, teak loungers, attentive service without being intrusive. The clientele mixes European families, Turkish couples from Istanbul, a few Americans on Aegean stopover. From 2 532 € per night, we pay for the tranquillity, the space, the discretion of an address that refuses ostentation ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Mandarin Oriental to couples in their forties and beyond seeking absolute calm without forgoing five-star service. Families find the necessary space (pavilions with private pool, supervised beach, kids club), the clientele remains mostly adult. It is an address for those who flee Mykonos and prefer Turkish discretion, dinners with feet in the water, days without a programme.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The Mandarin Oriental deploys its low pavilions across three levels of terraces, contemporary architecture inspired by Aegean villages: walls in Bodrum stone, flat tiled roofs, blue-grey painted wooden shutters. Interiors signed by the Turkish studio Gokhan Avcioglu: light travertine floors, cedar ceilings, bespoke furniture in whitewashed oak. The 109 rooms and suites are distributed in single-storey or one-storey buildings, some with private 25 m² pool. Human scale, no monolithic block, we move between Mediterranean gardens and stone paths.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
Two main tables at the Mandarin Oriental: Kurochan for Nikkei cuisine (Peruvian-Japanese fusion), teak terrace facing the bay, reservation advised three days ahead. Assaggio serves a classic Italian menu, fresh pasta, grilled fish, wine list focused on Tuscany and Turkish wines from Cappadocia. Breakfast is taken at restaurant Bodrum, Turkish-Mediterranean buffet, local cheeses, Ottoman pastries, view over the three pools. Beach bar open until midnight, signature cocktails based on raki and Anatolian herbs.
