The Garrya Tongsai Bay Samui occupies 25 hectares of gently sloping tropical jungle towards a private bay, in the north-east of the island. We sleep in teak and volcanic stone villas, scattered over three levels of vegetation, some with infinity pools facing the South China Sea. The materials are raw, the furniture contemporary Thai, the bathrooms open onto interior gardens. Two hillside pools, an 800 m² spa in the trees, a glass-walled fitness centre overlooking the canopy. The building
Architecture and interiors
The resort was entirely rebuilt in 2021 under the Garrya banner, part of the Chinese Jinjiang hotel group. Contemporary tropical architecture: pitched roofs, reclaimed teak, local stone, large glazed bays. Villas step down the hillside, linked by paved paths and staircases (golf cart on request). Interiors are pared back, beige and grey palette, bespoke furniture, Thai textiles. Villas range from 65 to 280 m², all with private terrace or balcony.

Three tables at the Garrya: Pah-Hu for contemporary Thai cuisine on the terrace facing the bay, Klom Klorm for grilled dishes and seafood with feet in the sand, Jahn for the breakfast buffet and fusion dinners. The Chef's Table offers tasting menus by reservation, six guests maximum. Cocktail bar by the upper pool, list of rums and Japanese whiskies. 24-hour room service, reduced menu after midnight.

The Garrya stands 25 minutes by road from Koh Samui airport, on the north-east coast between Chaweng and Mae Nam. Tongsai Bay is reached only by a private winding road, no shops within 4 km. Fisherman's Village (Bophut) 15 minutes by car, Chaweng 20 minutes. The neighbourhood does not exist: we are alone on the bay, with two other small resorts invisible from the beach. Complimentary shuttle three times daily to shopping areas, otherwise taxi or rental scooter.
