The Conrad Koh Samui occupies a wooded promontory in the south-west of the island, accessible after twenty minutes of winding road from the airport. We stay in one of the 81 villas, all identical in principle: teak terrace, 10-metre infinity pool, sliding glass bay, king bed facing the sea. The interiors blend dark wood, grey volcanic stone, cream fabrics, subdued light even in broad daylight. The resort descends in tiers towards a small pebble beach accessible by funicular, the main pool sits mid-slope, the spa occupies a separate pavilion in the trees. From 768 € a night, we pay for the view and the isolation more than the service, correct without being memorable. The address suits couples seeking absolute calm, less so those who want to move around: Chaweng is 25 minutes away, Fisherman's Village 30 ✨

We recommend the Conrad to couples on honeymoon or romantic retreat who prioritise intimacy over animation. It is a resort for those who stay in their villa, read on the terrace, order room service, descend for a swim once a day. Families with children will find the place isolated and the stairs numerous, better to aim for the resorts of Chaweng or Bophut.

Architecture and interiors
The Conrad spreads over a wooded 10-hectare hill, built in 2009 according to a tiered plan that follows the natural slope. Contemporary Thai architecture: double-pitched slate-grey roofs, concrete and teak structures, wide overhangs. The villas are independent pavilions linked by paved paths and stairs, some paths climb at 15% gradient. Interiors signed by Blink Design Group of Singapore: volcanic stone on the floor, teak wood on the walls, low rattan furniture stained chocolate, open bathrooms with grey terrazzo bathtub.

Two tables at the Conrad: Jahn, gourmet Thai restaurant on a covered terrace, short menu of southern curries and grilled fish, open for dinner only. Zest, main restaurant by the pool, copious breakfast buffets, international menu at lunch and dinner, correct grills without surprise. The Sunset Bar serves cocktails and tapas facing the sea, lounge atmosphere from 17h. Room service 24h/24, reduced menu after midnight.

Where the hotel sits in Koh Samui
The Conrad stands on Taling Ngam point, south-west coast of Koh Samui, sparsely built sector facing the Ang Thong islands. Airport 25 minutes by car, Chaweng 30 minutes, Fisherman's Village 35. No shops within walking distance, the resort offers a free shuttle three times a day to the tourist centres. The neighbourhood is residential and quiet, a few private villas in the hills, two other luxury resorts nearby. We come here for the isolation, not for nightlife.
