Hilton Malta

The Hilton that understood Malta deserved better than a generic resort: five pools, a serious spa and St Julian's Bay within easy reach.

The Hilton Malta occupies the seafront of Portomaso, between the marina and the limestone cliffs of St Julian's. We tested a Deluxe sea-view room: 32 m², teak balcony, clear view over the boats and Spinola Bay. The five pools are the real asset, spread over three levels with enough sun loungers even in August. The 1 200 m² spa offers Elemis treatments and a hammam in local stone. From 439 € per night, it's good value for Malta in high season. The service is well-oiled, efficient without being warm. We recommend it for a beach-spa stay without architectural pretension ✨

Who is it for?

Who we recommend it to

We recommend the Hilton Malta to families wanting a comfortable base with multiple pools and organised kids' club. Quadra couples find a good balance between spa, decent restaurants and easy access to Valletta (15 minutes by car). It's also a well-run business address, with conference rooms and stable Wi-Fi in all rooms.

The building

Architecture and interiors

The Hilton Malta is a contemporary eight-storey building constructed in the 2000s, functional architecture without particular signature. Interiors are classic Hilton: beige marble in the lobby, light wood panelling, sober furnishings. Rooms renovated in 2019 display a neutral style (sand tones, tufted headboards, reconstituted stone bathrooms). The scale is that of a large resort: 413 rooms, long corridors, numerous lifts.

At the table

Restaurants, bar, service

Three restaurants on site: Blue Elephant for Thai cuisine (the chain's only address in Malta, kitsch decor but solid woks), Quarterdeck for Mediterranean grills on the terrace facing the sea, and Vento for breakfast buffets. The Essence bar serves classic cocktails until midnight. Nothing gastronomic, but portions are generous and service is swift. We prefer to dine out in St Julian's, ten minutes on foot.

Highlights

  • Five pools including an indoor heated one and an infinity pool facing the sea
  • 1 200 m² spa with hammam, sauna and Elemis treatment cabins
  • Direct access to a fitted rocky platform by the sea
  • Portomaso marina 200 metres away, restaurants and bars within walking distance
  • Family rooms with bunk beds and separate space for children

Location & access

Where the hotel sits in Malta

The Hilton stands in Portomaso, a residential and marina district north of St Julian's. Spinola Bay and its fish restaurants are 800 metres away, Paceville (nightlife) fifteen minutes on foot. Valletta is 8 km away, accessible by bus (line X2, stop in front of the hotel) or taxi. Malta International Airport is 25 minutes by car. The neighbourhood is quiet, geared towards affluent residents and boat owners, without particular architectural charm but practical.
