The Capitol Hotel Tokyu occupies a historic site in Nagatacho, where the old Hôtel Capitol once stood, frequented by the Beatles in 1966. We step into a lobby with 17-metre ceilings, white marble and dark wood panelling, soft lighting. Rooms start at 50 m², Simmons bedding, Shirakawa stone bathrooms, deep bathtubs. The Mizuki spa offers indoor onsen and 20-metre pool, rare in central Tokyo. Three restaurants including Suiren for kaiseki cuisine, Origami for teppanyaki grills. From 811 € a night, pricing coherent for this standard and governmental address. We only regret the lack of outdoor terrace, compensated by the Hie-jinja gardens five minutes on foot.

Who is it for?

Who we recommend it to

We recommend the Capitol Hotel Tokyu to business travellers chaining ministerial meetings and protocol dinners, as well as to forty-something couples seeking central calm. The hotel suits long stays, with its onsen spa and spacious rooms, less so families with young children. The clientele remains mostly Japanese and corporate, hushed atmosphere.

The building

Architecture and interiors

The Capitol Hotel Tokyu has occupied since 2010 a 29-storey building on the site of the old Hôtel Capitol (1963-2006). Contemporary neo-classical architecture by Kengo Kuma, 17-metre-high lobby, Carrara white marble and walnut panelling. Rooms from the 10th floor, 50 m² minimum, Shirakawa stone in the bathrooms, deep bathtubs, Simmons bedding. Mizuki spa on the 5th floor with volcanic stone onsen pool.

At the table

Restaurants, bar, service

Three restaurants in the hotel: Suiren on the 2nd floor for seasonal kaiseki cuisine, Origami for teppanyaki grills and wagyu meats, STAR BAR on the ground floor with 350 Japanese whiskies. Japanese-Western buffet breakfast served until 11am, 24/7 room service. We regret the absence of a starred table, compensated by nearby Akasaka and its izakayas.
