A contemporary Hyatt positioned facing Kōdai-ji, in historic Higashiyama, between temples and tea houses.
Park Hyatt Kyoto
From
858.031 €
“Private terrace in 70 % of rooms, direct view of tiled roofs and Yasaka pagoda.”
The Park Hyatt Kyoto occupies a gently sloping site two minutes from the Kōdai-ji temple, in the Higashiyama district where the last cobbled alleys of the imperial city survive. We slept in a 55 m² room with cedarwood terrace, volcanic stone bathtub, sliding shoji screens in washi paper. The light changes with the hour, filtered by the maples of the interior garden designed by landscape architect Toshiya Ogino. The spa offers yuzu and saké treatments, 15-metre indoor pool under glass roof. Service is discreet, bilingual, never intrusive. From 858 € per night, rate consistent with the standing and rarity of the location. We recommend staying in autumn, when red foliage frames the windows ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Park Hyatt to travellers seeking contemporary luxury without forgoing immersion in historic Kyoto. It's a hotel for honeymoon couples, fortysomethings on cultural retreats, fans of minimalist Japanese design. Families with children are accepted, but the atmosphere remains hushed, conducive to silence and contemplation.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from 2019, designed by Nikken Sekkei agency in collaboration with designer Yukio Hashimoto. Low-rise architecture (three storeys maximum) to respect the skyline of the listed district, façades in fire-blackened cryptomeria wood, kawara tile roofs. Interiors in Oya stone, hinoki wood, washi paper stretched over bamboo frames. Rooms measure between 55 and 120 m², all with stone bathtub and terrace or balcony.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Kyoto Bistro serves kaiseki cuisine revisited by chef Takuya Watanabe, trained at three-Michelin-star Kikunoi. Japanese or Western breakfast served in room or at the restaurant, with view of the interior garden. The Yasaka bar offers 80 references of saké and shochu, open until midnight. No starred table, but impeccable technical execution and seasonal products sourced from Nishiki market.
