Château Monfort - Relais & Châteaux

We recommend the Château Monfort to couples seeking a romantic weekend away from classic palace codes, and to travellers sensitive to narrative design. The hotel attracts an international thirty-to-fifty clientele, often on city breaks for shopping or opera at La Scala. Families with children can stay, but the atmosphere remains hushed, designed for adults.

The Château Monfort is an Art nouveau villa built in 1910 for a Milanese industrialist, bought and transformed into a luxury hotel in 2008. Director Ferzan Özpetek designed the interiors as a permanent cinema set: mural frescoes inspired by Grimm's tales and One Thousand and One Nights, Tiffany stained glass, wrought-iron staircase, moulded ceilings. The rooms measure between 22 and 45 m², each with its own chromatic universe and bespoke furniture. The whole blends respect for Art nouveau heritage and assumed theatricality.

The Rubacuori restaurant occupies a glass-roofed room on the ground floor, opening onto a small interior garden. The menu offers contemporary Lombard cuisine: saffron risotto, osso buco, Lake Como fish, homemade pastries. The buffet breakfast is taken in the same room, with artisan pastries and Italian charcuterie. The Mezzanotte bar serves cocktails and champagnes until midnight, in a decor of red velvet and gilded mirrors.

The Château Monfort stands on Corso Concordia, in the Porta Venezia district, east of the historic centre. Porta Venezia metro station (line 1) is 400 metres away, the Duomo 15 minutes by metro. The Quadrilatère de la mode (via Montenapoleone, via della Spiga) is reachable in 8 minutes on foot. Linate airport is 20 minutes by taxi, Malpensa 50 minutes. The neighbourhood is residential and quiet, with Indro Montanelli public gardens two streets away, local restaurants and fine grocers.
