Hotel Fortuna

We recommend the Fortuna to families who want the sea without sacrificing comfort, and to couples who prefer a morning swim to nocturnal clubbing. It is an address for those who rent a car and explore the island, not for those who want to do everything on foot from the old town. Travellers seeking contemporary design or starred gastronomy will pass it by.

The Fortuna is a recent neo-Mediterranean construction, white façades and ochre-tiled roofs. The interior favours natural materials: Brač stone, pine wood, unbleached linen. The volumes remain modest, ceilings at 2.80 m, no monumental hall. The property comprises some forty rooms spread over three levels, those on the ground floor opening directly onto the garden and the beach.

The hotel restaurant offers a classic Dalmatian menu: octopus under the bell, grilled fish of the day, seafood pasta. The buffet breakfast includes local charcuterie, sheep's cheeses, homemade cakes. We can dine on the terrace facing the bay, service until 22:30. No signature chef or gastronomic ambition, but sound cooking that avoids having to take the car in the evening.

Milna lies on the south coast of Hvar, 8 km from the main town. The village has three fish restaurants, a grocery, no nightlife. The hotel is reached by a winding road from Stari Grad port (ferry from Split, 30 minutes then 25 minutes by car). Calm is total after 20:00, we hear cicadas and lapping water. To reach Hvar Town and its bars, allow twenty minutes by car or taxi.
