A vertical skyscraper by André Fu, where we sleep on the 38th floor in the silence of a Japanese library.
Upper House Hong Kong
From
773.478 €
“Rooms from the 38th floor with floor-to-ceiling windows on Victoria Harbour, without blackout curtains (Japanese blinds only).”
The Upper House occupies floors 38 to 49 of Pacific Place, above the Admiralty shopping centre. We ride a hushed lift that opens onto a lobby without a desk, just grey sofas and green tea. Rooms start at 55 m², light oak parquet, low Japanese-style bed, grey stone bathroom with bathtub facing the city. The harbour view justifies the rate from 773 € a night, especially on the upper floors where we see Kowloon and the ferries. Service is discreet, almost invisible, we meet no one in the corridors. Café Gray Deluxe on the top floor for breakfast facing the skyscrapers. A hotel for those fleeing Hong Kong bling ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend The Upper House to business travellers who want to escape the gilded palaces of Tsim Sha Tsui and to design-conscious couples who prefer calm to ostentation. It's a hotel for the over-40s and up, discreet meetings, tête-à-tête dinners, returns from meetings in Central. Families with children will find the atmosphere too hushed, the clientele remains mostly adult and professional.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The Upper House occupies the top twelve floors of an office tower at Pacific Place, complex opened in 1988 and renovated in 2009. Vertical architecture by André Fu, who designed the hotel like a suspended house: no traditional lobby, just a reception lounge on the 38th with library and fireplace. Natural materials everywhere, European oak, Jura stone, Belgian linen, Italian leather. Rooms from 55 to 140 m², all with floor-to-ceiling windows no balcony (Hong Kong regulations on towers).
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
Café Gray Deluxe on the 49th floor serves European-Asian fusion cuisine by Gray Kunz (died in 2020, brigade trained by him). Continental breakfast until 11am, brunch at weekends, dinner every evening with harbour view. The adjoining bar offers 200 wine references and sake cocktails. No gourmet room service, but light menu 24/7 (salads, pasta, dim sum). We come above all for the view and hushed ambience, the food is solid without being memorable.
