“Each room bears the name of a Viennese composer and displays contemporary design in preserved XVIIIᵉ volumes.”
Rooms by Wolfensson occupies a building on Habsburgergasse, a stone’s throw from the Hofburg and Graben. We slept in rooms where original parquet floors rub shoulders with Scandinavian furniture, polished terrazzo bathrooms, king beds dressed in Belgian linen. The scale is intimate, fourteen rooms only, no flashy lobby, just a stone staircase and discreet reception. Breakfast is taken in the room or at the neighbouring café, the hotel banks on autonomy rather than orchestrated service. The Booking score of 9,5/10 reflects a clientele seeking calm, refined design, proximity to the centre without the hubbub of grand palaces. From 327 € a night, it’s a rare quality-price ratio in Vienna’s first district ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Wolfensson to thirty- and forty-something couples who shun doormen hotels, prefer design to decorum, and want to be at the heart of Vienna without sacrificing calm. It’s an address for cultural weekends, romantic getaways, travellers accustomed to Copenhagen or Berlin boutique hotels. Families with young children will find the space limited, the hotel is aimed more at adults seeking autonomy and discretion.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from the XVIIIᵉ century, typical Baroque façade of Vienna’s historic centre, restored in 2019 with respect for the original volumes. Contemporary interiors by an Austrian studio: Muuto and HAY furniture, Flos lighting, bathrooms in terrazzo cast on site. Rooms range from 22 to 35 m², all different, some with views over a paved courtyard, others over Habsburgergasse. No lift, period stone staircase, which limits accessibility but preserves the authenticity of the place.
