The QT Queenstown sets its unselfconscious New Zealand design against Lake Wakatipu, between adrenaline and terrace aperitifs.
QT Queenstown

“Stilted terrace at the edge of Lake Wakatipu, direct view of the Remarkables, open all year round.”
Le QT Queenstown occupies a contemporary building on Lake Esplanade, a stone's throw from the town centre and jet-boat departures. We slept in rooms with an unapologetic New Zealand design: dark wood, merino wool, large bay windows overlooking the lake or the mountains. The atmosphere is relaxed, far from the formalism of European palaces, with a mixed clientele (skiers in winter, hikers in summer, families all year round). The restaurant and bar on the ground floor extend the lounge spirit, wooden terrace facing the Remarkables. From 175 € per night, it is one of the best value-for-money options in Queenstown for a 5★ with feet in the water. The service is efficient, without fuss, in the image of the city. We recommend it for those looking for a design base camp rather than a contemplative retreat ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the QT to travellers who come for activities (skiing at Coronet Peak, hiking, water sports) and want a design hotel without protocol. It is an address for thirty- and forty-something couples, families with teenagers, groups of friends who chain active days and evenings on the terrace. Lovers of classic palaces or absolute silence will prefer the isolated lodges around the lake.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The QT Queenstown occupies a contemporary building constructed in the 2000s, renovated in 2014. Architecture in wood and glass, generous volumes, large bay windows to capture the light of the lake. Interiors signed Izzard Design: local schist wood, merino wool, tanned leather, grey-anthracite-camel palette. Rooms between 28 and 45 m², all with balcony or terrace.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The Bazaar restaurant offers a fusion Asian-Pacific menu, open midday and evening, with a view of the lake. The breakfast buffet is generous, New Zealand products (smoked salmon, local yoghurts, house breads). The Reds Bar, on the ground floor, serves cocktails and tapas until midnight, heated terrace in winter. Room service available 24/7.
