A contemporary glass tower above Lake Wakatipu, where New Zealand architecture meets discreet alpine luxury.

“Spa with panoramic view of the Remarkables, open until 9pm every day.”
The Spire Hotel occupies a six-storey tower on Church Lane, two streets behind the lakefront. We tested a room on the fourth floor: floor-to-ceiling bay windows, New Zealand oak parquet, bathrooms in grey schist from Central Otago. The spa on the top floor offers a direct view of the Remarkables, heated pool included. The restaurant serves a short menu focused on Wanaka lamb and Central Otago wines. From 766 € per night, this is the Queenstown high season rate (June-September, December-February). The service remains attentive without being intrusive, typical of New Zealand hospitality. An address for those seeking modern comfort rather than rustic charm ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend The Spire to thirty- and forty-something couples who come for skiing (Coronet Peak 25 minutes away) or outdoor activities without wanting to sleep in a chalet. It is an address for active honeymoons, wellness weekends after hiking, or stopovers between Milford Sound and Christchurch. Families find their place here (family rooms available), but the atmosphere remains resolutely adult and calm.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The Spire is a contemporary glass and steel construction, inaugurated in the 2010s. Vertical architecture typical of new Queenstown, with glazed façades to maximise views over the lake and mountains. Minimalist interiors: local schist stone, New Zealand oak wood, grey and beige tones. The scale remains modest (six storeys), which preserves a certain intimacy despite the modern structure.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
The hotel restaurant offers a short menu renewed according to the seasons, focused on Wanaka lamb, Pacific salmon and Central Otago vegetables. Cellar focused on regional pinot noirs and blancs (Gibbston Valley, Bannockburn). Continental breakfast included in some rates, with hot options à la carte. Room service available until 10pm, practical after a day of skiing or hiking.

Location & access
Where the hotel sits in Queenstown
The Spire stands on Church Lane, a street perpendicular to the lakefront, three minutes' walk from the jetty and five from Steamer Wharf. Queenstown centre (Rees Street, The Mall) is 400 metres away, with all restaurants, bars and activity agencies. Queenstown Airport is 15 minutes by car, shuttle included.
