We recommend JA Manafaru to couples on honeymoon or anniversary seeking seclusion without sacrificing five-star comfort, and to families with children over six (the resort accepts under-twelves in all villa categories). The included seaplane offer also appeals to travellers calculating the real cost of a Maldivian stay, where the transfer often represents 20 to 25 % of the total budget. Experienced divers appreciate the proximity of Haa Alif sites, still little explored.

The resort stretches across a 23-hectare island planted with coconut palms and pandanus, with contemporary Maldivian architecture in teak wood, thatched roofs and iroko stilts. The 84 villas are spread between beach and lagoon, all with private pool, some on two levels for families. Interiors blend dark wood, white linen and low furniture inspired by Sri Lankan craftsmanship. Overwater villas offer direct water access via private stairs, sandy bottom at three metres, coral at fifty metres.

Three main restaurants at JA Manafaru: White Orchid for pan-Asian cuisine (Thai, Japanese, Indian), Andiamo Beach for pizzas and fresh pasta with feet in the sand, Kakuni for grilled fish and seafood caught that morning. Veli Bar serves cocktails at sunset, a list of arranged rums and Japanese whiskies. Breakfast buffet from 7h to 11h, 24-hour room service with a 15 % supplement after 23h. We tested the private dinner on the sandbank, organised at low tide, fixed menu at 280 € per person excluding drinks.

The island lies in Haa Alif atoll, the northernmost of the Maldives, 450 km north of Malé. Transfer is by seaplane only, 70 minutes flying over the atolls, departures between 6h and 16h according to tides. Isolation is real: the nearest inhabited island is 12 km away, no resort visible on the horizon. The area remains little developed touristically, guaranteeing rare tranquillity in the Maldives yet limiting cultural excursions (no traditional village reachable in less than an hour by boat).
