Jungle resort on a hillside, between terraced rice fields and tropical forest, far from the Seminyak hustle.
Kastara Resort

“Infinity pool suspended facing the Tegallalang rice terraces, accessible 24/7.”
Kastara Resort stands in Keliki, a mountain village 30 minutes north of Ubud, in a fold of jungle where the rice terraces descend in steps to the canopy. We sleep in villas on stilts, teak wood and volcanic stone, sliding glass doors that open onto the forest. The spa offers traditional Balinese treatments (lulur massage, frangipani flower bath), cabins open to the valley. The infinity pool overlooks three levels of rice terraces, water at 28°, teak sun loungers under parasols. The restaurant serves reimagined Indonesian cuisine, smoked duck nasi goreng, Iberian pork satay, short but well-chosen wine list. From 160 € per night, a rate that places Kastara among the island's best deals for this level of service. Service is attentive without being intrusive, free shuttle to Ubud three times a day. We recommend for a three- to five-night retreat, time to really slow down ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Kastara to couples seeking calm, far from the crowded southern beaches, who want to discover inland Bali without sacrificing comfort. It's an address for thirty- and fortysomethings on romantic retreats, discreet honeymoons, digital nomads who alternate work and spa. Families with young children will find the site magnificent but isolated, better to come as a couple.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The resort opened in 2019, contemporary Balinese architecture by a Denpasar studio. Individual villas on stilts, recycled teak structure, thatched roofs (alang-alang), grey volcanic stone walls. Minimalist interiors, polished terrazzo floors, semi-open bathrooms with river stone bathtubs. Human scale, 18 villas across two hectares of slope, linked by wooden paths.
At the table

The chef works with local producers, vegetables from neighbouring villages, fish from Jimbaran delivered in the morning. Cocktail bar open until 11pm, short menu (spiced gin-and-tonic, Thai basil mojito). Room service available 24/7, simplified menu after midnight.
