The only palace in Barra da Tijuca that commands the beach and the lagoon, far from the bustle of Copacabana.
Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro

“Two pools including one with overflow facing the Atlantic, open until sunset.”
The Grand Hyatt Rio de Janeiro occupies 28 floors on Avenida Lúcio Costa, facing Barra beach. We sleep in rooms with sand and light wood tones, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, ocean or lagoon views depending on the floor. The 1 200 m² spa offers hammam, sauna and treatment cabins with Brazilian products. The two pools (one indoor, one outdoor overflow) alone justify the detour, especially in late afternoon when the light turns to gold. The service is well-oiled, efficient without being warm, typical of large international chains. From 223 € a night, it is the good value for money for a 5★ by the sea in Rio. We recommend it for beach and business stays, less for carioca immersion ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend the Grand Hyatt to families who want the beach without giving up palace comfort, and to business travellers on mission in Barra (convention district and corporate headquarters). It is also a good address for couples who prefer the calm of Barra to the hustle of Copacabana or Ipanema. Surfers and kitesurfing enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity of the spots in Barra and Recreio.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The Grand Hyatt Rio occupies a contemporary 28-storey tower inaugurated in 2016, glass and concrete architecture signed Aflalo/Gasperini. Interiors signed Yabu Pushelberg: light marble, jatoba wood, linen and cotton fabrics in neutral tones. The lobby opens onto a double-height atrium with direct ocean view. Rooms between 42 and 280 m², all with balcony.
At the table
Restaurants, bar, service
Three tables at the Grand Hyatt: Tano Cucina Italiana for transalpine cuisine (fresh pasta, saffron risotto), Shiro for sushi and ceviches, Tano Café for the Brazilian buffet breakfast (tapioca, tropical fruits, pão de queijo). The Atiaia bar offers cachaça-based cocktails and local fruits, lagoon view, open until midnight. Room service runs 24/7, reduced menu after 23h.
