We tested an Executive room, 42 m², light parquet, pearl grey padded headboard, walnut desk, white marble bathroom with double sink. The view looks over the Han River or the glass towers of the district, depending on the orientation. The service is well-oiled, efficient, without particular warmth: we are in a classic Fairmont, well maintained, predictable. The pool on the 29ᵉ floor alone justifies the detour, floor-to-ceiling bay windows, teak loungers, grazing light at the end of the day. The Fairmont Ambassador Seoul opened in 2021 in the IFC tower, a complex of three skyscrapers designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox, glass and steel architecture typical of Asian business districts. The hotel occupies floors 29 to 48, lobby on the 29ᵉ with double-height ceilings, grey marble, blown-glass chandeliers, contemporary furniture by Yabu Pushelberg. The rooms play on North American sobriety: neutral tones, light wood, clean lines, no Korean reference in the decor. The whole is new, impeccable, without particular soul.

Three tables at the Fairmont Ambassador: the Brasserie for buffet breakfasts (eggs, kimchi, dim sum, omelette station), Akira Back for the Japanese-Korean fusion cuisine of the eponymous chef (reserve at weekends), the Lobby Lounge for afternoon tea and evening cocktails. Room service runs 24/7, correct international menu, club sandwich at 28 000 wons. We tested Akira Back: fresh sashimi, spicy tuna tacos, Instagram presentation, salty bill (count 120 000 wons per person). The service is professional, tables fill quickly on Friday evenings.

The Fairmont Ambassador stands in Yeouido, an artificial island on the Han River transformed into a business district in the 1970s. Office towers, chaebol headquarters, National Assembly, Yeouido Hangang park to run along the river. Yeouido metro station (line 5) five minutes on foot, Incheon airport 50 minutes by taxi, Seoul station 20 minutes. The district is lively during the week, deserted on Sundays, few traditional restaurants: one comes here to work, not to wander. To discover Seoul, one must cross the river towards Gangnam (15 minutes) or head up towards Myeongdong and Jongno (25 minutes).
