A loft-gallery in the Bairro Alto, where contemporary Portuguese art replaces palace furniture.
Raw Culture Art & Lofts Bairro Alto
From
239.4 €
“Each loft displays works by emerging Lisbon artists, renewed every quarter.”
Raw Culture Art & Lofts Bairro Alto occupies a renovated building on Rua das Gáveas, right in the heart of the bohemian district. We step into lofts of 40 to 80 m² with white walls hung with canvases, sculptures and installations signed by local artists selected by management. The volumes are high, the floors in polished concrete, the kitchens equipped with Smeg, the bathrooms in grey terrazzo. The hybrid gallery-accommodation concept works: we sleep surrounded by purchasable art, without the frozen museum feel. From 239 € a night, it's an address for travellers who prefer raw spaces to gilding. No liveried concierge, but a welcome that knows the neighbourhood's private views ✨
Who is it for?
Who we recommend it to
We recommend Raw Culture to travellers aged 30 to 50 who shun hotels with marble columns. It's an address for couples on a cultural weekend, architects, designers, art buyers, journalists scouting. Families with children over 10 will be happy here thanks to the equipped kitchens and loft space.
The building
Architecture and interiors
The building dates from the XIXᵉ century, restored azulejos façade, interior structure entirely redone in 2019. The architects kept the exposed metal beams and original bricks, added industrial glazing and glass partitions. Each loft is different: some in duplex with mezzanine, others in open-plan. Raw materials (concrete, steel, glass) contrast with the colourful works hung on the walls.
